​The Handsworth Student Spotlight (HSS) Award, formerly known as the Royal Recognition Award, is awarded to individuals or groups of students who have expressed their passions and demonstrated the qualities of the school's mission statement.  Students can be nominated for excellence in the following areas: clubs, out-of-school athletics, community accomplishments, leadership, and extra-curriculars (in or out of school).
